1.4 the making of the leaflet and analysis- final analysis

Leaflet Analysis

My brief for 1.3 of the Scene unit was to make a leaflet inviting people to the Southbank. I have successfully made the leaflet inviting people to the Southbank and will now analyse each part in order to show why I have done certain things and explain the effect that they give.

Front cover - Top

The colour scheme of the leaflet is turquoise/blue and red with a yellow outer glow around some titles and images. This is the title of the leaflet and also the main thing that indicates what the leaflet is about. The “SOUTHBANK” (SB) fades from blue to white with a black inner glow and yellow outer glow to make it stand out from the rest of the cover. The black contrasts with the yellow and the yellow with the red behind. There are also some stars which I have made out of the London eye itself with the same layer style as the other typography around the SB in order to show how bright and good the SB is. The “THE” and the “JAN – MARCH 2011” are red and white because they are not as important as the word “SB” but also because they do not contrast as much with the background so our attention is drawn to the “SB” more. They have the same layer style as the SB in order to have a sense of uniform and continuity on the front cover. In the background I have used a faded out red brush in the shape of stars and smoke in order to create a busy feel as a plain red background doesn’t draw attention as much.

Front cover - Left

This is the middle section of the front cover. The main objective of the typography in this section is to communicate what the leaflet itself is about. I have applied the same layer style to all of the typography and images in order to make them stand out from the background and also to create a sense of continuity. The man on the blue bike is a character from the film “Tron” which was one of the films that the IMAX was showing for a long time as it was a modern remaking of the 1st Tron which was a film about a man who got sucked into the virtual world of computes and then had to find a way out. I have slightly edited the IMAX logo in order to make it tessellate more with the image of the Tron bike. The words “ The eye in the storm of the creative and Media industry of England” is my slogan and basically means that the Southbank is where the creativity and Media of England is at its highest as there is so much in the Southbank. At the bottom is the starry/ smoky background like at the top however this time it is in blue. This is to go along with the colour scheme of the leaflet and also to create contrast between the top of the leaflet and the bottom. I have also added some brushes in order to make it look busier and also to symbolise the music that goes on in the SB in places like the Royal Festival Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall as the brushes are actually images of speakers and headphones.

Front cover - Right

This is the right side of the front cover of the leaflet. It is the main image on my front cover as it shows one of the girls in my class posing with one of the many street entertainers on the Southbank. The effect of this image is that the people on the Southbank are happy and also that the street performers make them happy. I have used the picture of this girl because she is a model and so knows how to pose in a way that it is professional. I have edited Mickey Mouse’ blazer so that it goes along with the colour scheme of the leaflet and also used a brush to make his skin clear. Also around this image there is not layer style as the image is so big that it doesn’t need one to stand out but also to make the image stand out from all of the others. BFI stand for “the British Film Institute” and is the organisation that owns and runs the IMAX itself and the image which says “BFI” is their logo. There is also the website at the bottom so that people who read the leaflet can get more information if they want to.

Middle of the Leaflet – Left side

This is the left of the leaflet that I have made. It is the main image that I have put in the middle pages of the leaflet and is of the BFI IMAX which I have also shown with the typography at the bottom. I have used the typography which I have on this page for continuity as I have used the same font on the front cover. I have used the blue and red colour scheme as the colours contrast well however at the same time they don’t clash and look out of place. The red in the title is important on this have also given the title a yellow and black outer glow in order to make it stand out from the background even more. I have given most significant things on the leaflet this same layer style in order to give this same effect but also for continuity throughout the leaflet in order to try and make it look as professional as possible. The blue ladybird decorations are there as they make the leaflet come alive as well as filling the space which would just be blackness. The brush which I have used is effective because it comes out at different angles and sizes therefore every shape is not the same however it is the same kind of thing therefore there is a sense of continuity. I have given the image of the IMAX the significance layer style as it is the main image displaying what the middle of the leaflet is about. The image on the bottom left is the logo of the British Film Institute which owns the IMAX.

Middle of the Leaflet – Right side

This is the right of the leaflet that I have made. At the top I have put the title which is “The Southbank.” This is one of the significant things on the leaflet therefore I have given it along with the text boxes the significance layer style in order to show their importance. Also at the top I have put a general overview of the Southbank in order to give the reader a general overview of what the Southbank actually is. This is in the theme colours of blue and red in order to help bring the leaflet together and connect the many different things in the leaflet together ultimately causing the leaflet to look very professional. Under this section there is a section giving short reviews on some of the films that have or still being shown in the IMAX in order to give the reader of the leaflet an idea about what films are shown in the IMAX. I have not applied the significance layer style because there would be too many significant things on one page causing the significance of the other things to be decreased and also there would be too much yellow and it may make the page look to crowded and busy. I have used the decorations which I have because they give the writing on the page a frame.

Back of the Leaflet

This is the back cover of the leaflet whic I have made. At the top of this page I there is a title whic is “THW SOUTHBANK” This is the 1st thing that the reader will loolk at when they see the back of the leaflet therefoire they will get the message of what the leaflet is about as soon as they look at the leaflet. I have given it the significance layer style except the yellow outter glow is smaller in order t make it seem different from the other significant things in the leaflet to make it stand out more. The rest of the title is saying that there is more in the Southbank than what is in the middle of the leaflet. I have also used the blue and red colour scheme from the rest of the leaflet in the garden/ autumn like decorations and also in the title to make the bacvk come alive and also to give it more dimension other than the black, yellow and white that it would be without it. In the text boxes there is information on three of the main places to visit in th southbank so that the reader may get a general idea about what goes on in order to give them some information directly about what goes on in the Southbank and also to possibly make the reader want to come to the Southbank itself. Also leading on from this there are some directions on how to get to the Southbank by many different method such as by trainb, bus or cycling in order to show the reader how simple it is to get there. I this is not enough information for the reader then therte is also a website at the bottom where they can get more information.

Conclusion

Overall I am very pleased with the leaflet which I have created as it looks very professional and I have met the brief well. I think that I used my time quite well even though it took me so long to create the leaflet as the leaflet is of an extremely high quality and therefore I am hoping to get the most marks possible for it.
